We will try and cover all of the ones we use at <a href=\"https:\/\/spike.sh\">Spike<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This post has all the DevTools or say products used by engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"\/tools-and-products-we-use-at-spike-part-2\">Second part<\/a> on all the marketing, support products we use \ud83d\udc49<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>PS: not covering our tech stack here<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"servers\">Servers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-aws\">1. <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\">AWS<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is pretty clear. AWS is reliable and has over <strong>160+ products \ud83d\ude33<\/strong>. From deployments, hosting, storage and monitoring. Why didn&#8217;t we directly use AWS lambda instead? Well, only because the setup on Vercel is so damn easy. Highly recommend them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-mongodb-atlas\">3. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mongodb.com\/cloud\/atlas\">MongoDB Atlas<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all our DB hosting needs. We haven&#8217;t moved all of it yet but soon we will finish this migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"monitoring\">Monitoring<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-cloudwatch\">1. <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/cloudwatch\">Cloudwatch<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We monitor a bunch of things from network I\/O, CPU, Disk space, Autoscaling, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-healthchecks-io\">2. <a href=\"https:\/\/healthchecks.io\">Healthchecks.io<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have a few cron jobs running at different schedules. While setting cron in Linux is easy, we still monitor it via Healthchecks to make sure it is actually running <strong>successfully<\/strong>. You can set your cron expression and they will make sure they are getting a ping ensuring it&#8217;s all good. Super awesome tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-uptime-robot\">3. <a href=\"https:\/\/uptimerobot.com\">Uptime Robot<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uptime monitoring to make sure all of our endpoints are up and running. Some endpoints everyone should monitor \ud83d\udc49<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dashboard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DB endpoint<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cache endpoint<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Good alternative is Apex Ping<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-datadog\">4. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datadoghq.com\">Datadog<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For our Application Performance Monitoring. When incidents happen, we want to make sure that alerts reach to you within one second. Nginx is clean, easy to setup and has a lot of plugins you can use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-sentry\">6. <a href=\"https:\/\/sentry.io\">Sentry<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all our error monitoring. They provide a ton of features and we have hardly ever been disappointed. Integrates with most languages and frameworks, catches all exceptions on serverless too \ud83d\udc4f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>tip: send additional data and use tags to identify your errors better with Sentry<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ci-cd\">CI\/CD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-buddy-works\">1. <a href=\"https:\/\/buddy.works\">Buddy.works<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We rely the most on Buddy for one simple reason &#8211; the UI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t have to spend a lot of time configuring on Buddy or even writing YAML files to get it running. This is easily the most underrated tool we use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-travis-ci\">2. <a href=\"https:\/\/travis-ci.org\">Travis CI<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is in our wishlist. We have been writing a lot of test cases in the past couple of months and in the near time we will be integrating Travis. <em>shoutout to Kent \ud83d\udc49 for building <a href=\"https:\/\/testingjavascript.com\/\">testingjavascript.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"devtools\">DevTools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-ngrok\">1. <a href=\"https:\/\/ngrok.com\">Ngrok<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clean, succinct and does the job well to expose our localhost urls so we can build integrations we ease. We have reserved about 4 subdomains on ngrok so we don&#8217;t have to spend time on reconfiguring the webhook urls for dev environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-vs-code-live-share\">2. <a href=\"https:\/\/marketplace.visualstudio.com\/items?itemName=MS-vsliveshare.vsliveshare\">VS Code Live Share<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Great for remote teams, we usually have a Google Meet call and pair program many-a-times using VS Code Live Share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-twilio\">3. <a href=\"https:\/\/twilio.com\">Twilio<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Easy to integrate with extensive documentation that you will <em>actually read<\/em>. Easily a very reliable platform for us to alert customers via Phone and SMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-sendgrid\">4. <a href=\"https:\/\/sendgrid.com\">Sendgrid<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We send all email notifications using Sendgrid. Reliable, easy to use SDK and so far not that expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"\/tools-and-products-we-use-at-spike-part-2\/\">Non-developer tools are next<\/a> \ud83d\udc49<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every organisation uses a multitude of a number of tools to support their business.
